The Central Exchange was formed in 1980 to promote the personal and professional development of women with emphasis on leadership training. It has more than 1,000 members from throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area. In 1993, a group of Maryland business leaders created Network 2000. Their mission was to assure leadership opportunities for qualified women, increase the number of women serving as directors on corporate Boards of Directors and educate the public on the benefits of having women in decision making positions.
